1999 Scamp 16’ with side toilet
This Scamp has been a wonderful back-country home for the two of us on many trips, only a few of which are shown in the photos. We have used it a lot for boondocking, and made some improvements to accommodate that usage: we installed an axle with a higher angle on the arms to give it higher clearance; replaced all the interior lights with LEDs for longer battery life; equipped it with a Renogy 200W suitcase solar charger which can keep the battery charged when off-grid for a while; installed a 12V socket so we can keep our phones charged. It holds two propane tanks with an automatic changeover valve. The propane furnace works, and allows us to extend to 3-season camping (in Colorado). We have also taken some long road trips, saving on motel costs. It has been very towable with our 2000 Toyota Tacoma. It has been very comfortable and homey, and we have had many good times with this as our home-away-from-home, and we’re only selling because one of us has fallen into a chronic illness that makes “Scamping” infeasible.
The details:
1999 Scamp 16’ with side bath and front bunks. This model has a toilet/shower, gray- and black-water tanks, a fresh-water tank and pump, 3-way refrigerator, furnace, water heater, two-burner stove, rear dinette that converts into a bed, front couch that converts into bunks. On the outside, it has hookups for shore power, water, and waste water drainage, as well as quick-connect for the solar panel. Everything works, except we never even tried to use the water heater, so we don’t know. The refrigerator works on shore power and propane (it works on 12V, but will drain the battery in short order).
Enhancements include additional lighting over the stove and the bed, all lighting converted to LED and additional lights over the stove and the bed. 200W solar charger that’s easily hooked up and keeps the battery charged even on cloudy days.
