Our 13' Scamp is up for sale! We've loved our camper "Shell", but we're moving back in to full time life on the road and this guy is ALMOST (but just shy) of being able to fit the bill for our full time needs. We're building out a custom Van and will be moving in to it within the next few months, and that means our truck and Shell have to find (or become) new homes.
The biggest changes we made were the replacement of the Black Tank and Standard Toilet with a Nature's Head composting toilet, as we've done with every RV we've had. We're big believers in composting toilets, and prefer these to dealing with black tanks and any potential smell or cleanup issues they create. We also installed a ShadyBoy awning which we love, and replaced the old tires with 3x brand new Kenda Karrier ST175/80R13 Load Range "D", Speed Rated "M" (81mph) Tires (same size as stock tires/wheels). We also think the black wheels make the camper look a lot sharper.
We've upgraded the interior of the Scamp with practical organizational upgrades which makes the interior VASTLY more livable in our experience. One of the biggest visual upgrades we made was the door to the bathroom- a weirdly heavy particle wood which we cut several rectangular pieces out of and replaced with a thin, lightweight mirrored material. The result is a door that doubles as a full length mirror, which makes the interior feel larger, and also makes for a lighter camper. :-)
The camper tows exceptionally well in the city, country roads, and on the highway. I was particularly surprised at how stable it was when being passed by 18 wheelers on the interstate (prior to our upgraded tires we stayed at around 55MPH), as well as in high winds.
Everything we've used and tested has worked great. The AC is a lifesaver! We have not used the furnace or water heater (haven't needed to), and would recommend servicing them before use. There's a small crack in the upper portion of the sink which doesn't affect use in the least- just making mention. The MaxxFan, when operated at its highest settings, will sometimes throw an error and need to be power cycled. Low and medium-medium high settings don't cause this.
To sweeten the deal we're including a Goal Zero Yeti 500X solar generator + portable solar panels for boondocking. This is a great system for extra power when you're away from shore power. We're adjusting our power system in the new build and won't have the space for it. You can even run the whole camper off of it for a time (not including the AC unit obviously).
